Buns and Ramen at Momofuku Noodle Bar NYC Bleecker March 27, 2015 Brunch, Dinner, East Village, Featured, Food Types, Japanese, Lunch, Neighborhoods, Ramen, Restaurants, Reviews Momofuku Noodle Bar is without a doubt one of the most popular places in the city to go get ramen. Although I am both a huge fan of David Chang, and ramen, I had avoided going to the Momofuku Noodle bar for a while. Mostly because I was so worried that the food might not live up to what I hoped. Luckily, well maybe it wasn’t luck just amazing culinary talent, I could not have been more thrilled with my meal. Momofuku Noodle Bar – Here I Come! I braved the cold and went to Momofuku Noodle Bar with a few friends for lunch on Saturday. Although it was quite packed our group of four only had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. We wasted no time ordering because we all knew, as soon as we sat down, what we wanted to order. Our table shared some orders of the shrimp buns, 2 of us ordered the Momofuku ramen, and 2 ordered the spicy miso ramen. First off I was a little bummed that the famous pork buns weren’t on the menu. I’m not sure what the deal was with that but I knew that the shrimp buns would be my second choice. I was amazingly astounded by these shrimp buns! I am a total convert into the shrimp bun camp! My Momofuku Noodle Bar Ramen was topped with a poached egg, scallions, nori, a slice of pork belly, shredded pork shoulder and Japanese narutomaki (which I’m not a fan of but I just left it aside in the bowl). My ramen was delicious, the noodles had a great chew and the broth was thick so that it coated the noodles as you slurped them up. I ended up adding some of David Chang’s famous Ssam sauce, which is soon to be bottled and sold. The Ssam sauce was like a more flavorful Sriracha sauce. I can’t wait to buy some for myself! I have to say though; I preferred the spicy miso ramen. That option came topped with smoked chicken, lots of spinach, nori, scallions and a poached egg. Yet, the big difference in these two bowls was the ramen broth. The spicy miso broth was so savory and delicious with the perfect amount of spice. I am glad that I finally made the venture to the Momofuku Noodle Bar and I hope to return and try the famous fried chicken dinner so look out for that write up!
