New Lunch Menu at Pounds and Ounces in Chelsea Bleecker May 24, 2015 Chelsea, Featured, Lunch, Neighborhoods, Restaurants, Reviews If you’re looking for a place to go for a fun night out with friends, the unique dinner menu, oversized bar, captivating cocktail list, and upbeat music at Pounds and Ounces make for a great option. The modern interior design, at Pounds and Ounces NYC, is complete with a long-illuminated marble table, art deco neon lights, vibrant wall murals, massive mirrors, and alabaster and metal tables. The growing dinner crowd and night scene encouraged Executive Chef Margaret LaVetty to open up for lunch Monday through Friday from noon to 3 p.m. The new lunch menu offers a fun selection of small plates, pub plates, salads, and wraps. Most dishes are a take on traditionally American entrées. Lunch at Pounds and Ounces in Chelsea Although small, the Mezze Trio was a nice way to start the meal with Grecian marinated olives, white bean dip, and crostini. Entering soft shell crab season, we decided to give the Fork & Knife Surf and Turf Burger a try. As soon as it arrived, we knew it was definitely an ambitious decision and the name was certainly appropriate! Even using a fork and knife it was difficult to cut through the soft shell crab sitting on top of the eight ounce beef patty. The soft shell crab is bathed in Cajun spiced rice before being fried. Char grilled corn salsa, white Cheddar cheese, remoulade and lettuce are served (in the little room!) left on top of the crab between the two buns. A stack of string fries come on the side as well. Rare seared ahi tuna is served on a bed of greens with kimchee slaw and wasabi aioli. Although it was tough to save room for dessert, we did give the Lavender Sandwiches and the Triple Chocolate Pretzel Parfait a try. The sandwiches nestled vanilla gelato between lavender-white chocolate shortbread cookies. The parfait had three scrumptious layers of rich chocolate mousse complemented by salted caramel candied pretzels. Lunch at Pounds and Ounces serves as a great addition to their already happening nightlife and brunch scenes. Located in the heart of Chelsea and steps away from the Meatpacking district, Pounds and Ounces’ is a fun place to enjoy great food in a lively atmosphere.
