Late Night Scoops on Upper East Side – The Sweet Shop NYC Bleecker May 23, 2015 Behind the Kitchen, Dessert, Featured, Food Types, Neighborhoods, NYC Store, Upper East Side I took a trip to the Upper East Side to check out the popular sweet destination, The Sweet Shop NYC. Kelly, the candy man, and his wife opened the destination in October of 2013. The Sweet Shop NYC has a focus on quality and serving size, two things you might not normally associate with candy stores. Kelly told me that he would rather have you come in and have one bite of something super delicious rather than eating a whole bunch of subpar sweets. The Origins of The Sweet Shop NYC The idea to open The Sweet Shoppe NYC came when Kelly and his wife, self-proclaimed ice cream snobs, realized that the neighborhood was missing an ice cream joint that would stay open late. To fix this dilemma their very own shop has a huge focus on quality ice cream and they keep the store open until 10pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. The Sweet Shop NYC carries ice cream from some of the most famous and loved places in the city like Il Laboratorio del Gelato, Van Leeuwen, OddFellows, Melt and Alchemy. Feel free to try one or more of these flavors when you get the tiny cone or cup! At only about 100 calories per serving what’s not to love? These tiny servings are the perfect size for little ones or grown-ups trying to be sugar conscious! I got to taste the pomegranate flavor from Il Lab in a tiny cone and it was indeed the perfect afternoon treat that didn’t spoil my appetite for dinner. On top of ice cream The Sweet Shop NYC is also carrying other recognizable city sweets like doughnuts from Dough Loco and People’s Pops. What’s Coming from the Sweet Shop NYC? Starting this summer The Sweet Shop NYC will be making old fashioned shaved ice. They only use flavoring for the ice that is made will real sugar, no corn syrup here! If you are looking for some candy that is pay by weight, make sure you ask about the stock of candy from Sweden. Because of the higher quality of food standards overseas, these gummy candies are free of questionable ingredients that you might find in candies made domestically. The Sweet Shop NYC has a treat for everyone, they stock lots of gluten and nut free options, so bring the whole family! On weekends lines can get long but Kelly tries to keep everyone happy with a few free samples while you wait, how thoughtful! The Sweet Shop NYC – Website 404 East 73rd Street New York, NY
