HungryRoot – Healthy Food Delivery in NYC and Beyond Bleecker April 22, 2015 Events, Featured, Food Types, Gluten Free Options, Healthy, Lifestyle, Products, Vegetarian Did you know only 6% of Americans eat the recommended amount of vegetables? Are you really that surprised? With fast food quick fixes just about everywhere, and the fact that meat is still thought of as the center of our plates, vegetables remain a sad sideshow in our society. HungryRoot Healthy Meals Luckily, there are people out there trying to bring veggies back, Justin Timberlake style. Hungryroot, which just launched on April 1st, will blow your mind with just how craveable vegetables can be. This company is transforming how we traditionally see vegetables. Their products are unique, and bursting with flavor – you may even forget you’re eating vegetables all together. Turnip Noodles with Toasted Walnut Pesto Hungryroot’s mission is to bring vegetables back to the center of our plate. And they’re doing so by way of spiralized vegetable noodles. Say what? That’s right, Hungryroot is the first company to deliver healthy, ready-to-cook packaged meals based on “noodles” made from vegetables. They’re swapping carb-heavy, gluten-full pasta for “noodles” made from zucchini, sweet potatoes, beets, and more. “You feel like you’re eating a big bowl of pasta, but it’s actually a big bowl of vegetables,” says 29 year old co-founder Ben McKean, who previously founded deal-scouring restaurant app Savored, which was acquired by Groupon. Where did Hungryroot come from? Hungryroot was co-founded by Mckean, and partners Greg Struck and renowned Chef Franklin Becker, who’s talents can currently be found at The Little Beet Table, one of my personal favorites. Becker’s food is actually what inspired Mckean for Hungryroot. His original dream was to make vegetables desirable in an innovative and easy way. And it’s now become a reality. Mckean and cofounders have created a brand of farm fresh 7-minute meals that remain fresh in your fridge for 14 days! They use 100% organic vegetables and pair them with all-natural chef-designed sauces, toppings, and optional pre-roasted proteins. Each meal is 100% gluten-free, non-GMO and under 500 calories. Beet Noodles with Savory Thai Sesame I recently had the fortunate opportunity to sample every Hungryroot product at a special tasting event, and it’s easy to say that absolutely none of them disappointed. I actually could not believe how full I was after just eating vegetables! Being quite familiar with spiralizing veggies myself, I was still impressed by the Hungryroot creations. I had never tried beet, turnip, or rutabaga noodles, and those three were probably my favorite, but all were really quite tasty. The turnip and rutabaga dishes had a texture most similar to pasta, leaving me satisfied, but without the guilt. Where can I get Hungryroot Products? Currently, Hungryroot ships to all of the North East and Mid-Atlantic and most of the Mid-West and Southern States, and will eventually ship nationwide. They also have plans for creating other healthy packaged meals other than just vegetable noodles, but will keep the focus on vegetables. It’s now your turn to start adding more vegetables to your plate. Let Hungryroot help you and the rest of America solve this problem once and for all.
