Amazing Activities For Everyone In NYC In October 2021 Bleecker October 27, 2021 Events, Hot Spots, NYC Happenings New York City offers special activities and a unique atmosphere for everyone all year long, but some months are more fun than others. October is one of the top 3 months to live here; it is not too hot but still warm during the day, the nights get crisp, but the brutal winter weather is still a few months off. If you live here or are a tourist visiting in Autumn, here are a few things for everyone to do in NYC in October to get the most out of this glorious month. New York City Wine and Food Festival (October 14 – 17) For foodies and wine connoisseurs, the New York City Wine and Food Festival was made for you. It has over one hundred events spanning three days, including food and wine tastings, formal dinners with world-famous chefs from renowned NYC restaurants, classes on cooking and nutrition, and plenty of parties. Halloween Parades (October 31) There are several parades across the city that you can take in and a few you can even participate in if you are in costume. The most famous is the Village Halloween Parade, a fast-paced, fun, and always-boisterous event in the West Village. The theme this year is “let’s play” and celebrates the children of New York City. The parade starts at 7, but it is always wise to get there a little early. Catch the Fall Colors Northern New England and upstate New York are always bragging about their foliage, but the truth is New York City and the surrounding areas have some pretty spectacular fall foliage. To take it all in, you can embark on a cruise up the Hudson or do it on your own at just about any city park. Central Park can be breathtaking starting around the end of the month. New York Weekend Open House (October 16th and 17th) New York City’s annual open house lets tourists and locals visit and tour the buildings that make the city work. Visitors get to see a different side of New York and meet the employees who keep the trains running on time (sort of.) You can find buildings that are open all over the five Boroughs, including museums. Rooftop Bars New York City has impressive rooftop bars, but many people think they disappear once the air gets a little crisp. Nothing could be further from the truth. While many rooftop bars become enclosed, some even stay open to the fresh air for the entire year, except in inclement weather. Pumpkin Flotilla (October 31) If you have children and want a family-friendly activity, you and they can carve some pumpkins, hear some scary stories and watch a Halloween Parade in Central Park. At 6:30, carved pumpkins are released into the Harlem Meer. They typically float for about 30 minutes. It is a fantastic event for the entire family. NBA/NHL Preseason is here, and you can see professional-caliber play for a fraction of the regular season price. But, of course, MSG also has many other events, so if basketball and hockey are not your things, something on their schedule might grab your attention. October in New York City is remarkable.
