Fish tacos are always a good idea, especially on a breezy summer night. So when the guys behind Meatball Shop decide to open a fish-focused restaurant in the middle of summer, with four different types of tacos on the menu, you drop everything you’re doing and head there ASAP.

Where is Seamore’s

Located in Nolita on the corner of Broome St. and Mulberry, Seamore’s just opened on Monday, June 29th. The focus is on fish, but not just any fish. At Seamore’s it’s all about locally sourced and sustainable fish. They even have a wall painted with a fish diagram, which points out which catch is available that day. You may see some fish you’ve never heard of, because the less popular/well-know fish are sometimes the more sustainable choice.

There’s seating for 70, but most tables are communal style, so come with a big crew or enjoy some conversation with your stranger neighbors. At Seamore’s it’s all about good vibes here. With Montauk inspired décor, it will surely feel like summer year round with floor-to-ceiling windows, white and mint green accents, hand-painted tiles and geometric wallpaper.

Now back to the food. The menu is divided into sections including fish tacos, salads, “for the crew” aka shared plates, and the “reel deal”, which allows to pick your fish, sauce, and your choice of veggie. During my first visit, our group of four split the mussels and crispy squid. The crispy squid and sauce hit the spot, but definitely small compared to a typical order of calamari. However, the mussels’ portion was big, but left enough room for tacos. (We would’ve made room anyways…) For the tacos, my friend and I split the crispy fish and the seared seasonal fish. I enjoyed both tremendously, but I would go back every day for those crispy fish tacos. There’s something about chipotle sauce that can do no wrong on a taco…or anything for that matter.

And for drinks, they have some great offerings, most in line with their “beachy” theme. For example, cocktails include the “shore thing” (vodka, nectarines, sage, lime and yellow chartreuse) and the “swipe right mojito” (rum, mint, blackberries, agave. They also will “booze-ify” any of their aguas frescas upon request, like watermelon and cucumber mint.

Sadly we didn’t leave enough room for dessert, but next time I’ll be save some space. They offer a vegan coconut kaffir lime soft served topped with granola (all from OddFellows) which is served in adorable tiny cone holders.

Overall, Seamore’s hit the spot with their tacos, service, and good vibes all around. I can’t wait for my return visit. Who’s joining me?
