During the winter I tend to gravitate towards red wine, but once the weather warms up I’m back in beer mode. Nothing is more refreshing and summery than having a beer at the end of the day on an NYC rooftop. Here are 4 unique summer beers that will bring you relaxation. My Picks For the Perfect Summer Beers Third Rail Field 2 Brewery: Third Rail Beer’s Summer Beer: Field 2 Style: Farmhouse Ale ABV: 6.1% Website: Click Here Third Rail Beers are as local as it gets for Manhattanites. This brewery hasn’t been around for long but they are making a name for themselves with their pursuit of quality and honoring brewing heritage. In tradition with farmhouse ales, Third Rail uses hops from Bavaria and Slovenia to make this beer, which gives it a slight flavor of lemongrass. Do as the farmers would and enjoy this beer outside, maybe even on it’s namesake Field 2 on the Great Lawn in Central Park. Bell’s Oberon Ale Brewery: Bell’s Summer Beer: Oberon Style: Ale ABV: 5.8% Website: Click Here Oberon is probably not only my favorite summer beer, but my favorite beer hands down. On the bottle Oberon is described as having the taste and color of a summer’s day. This beer is the perfect mix between lightness and flavor. Without being too heavy this beer manages to tangle flavors of hops, citrus and wheat all into one refreshing sip. Bell’s says that the smooth mouth feel from the wheat malt make it the classic summer beer, and I agree! Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin Brewery: Ballast Point Summer Beer: Grapefruit Sculpin Style: American IPA ABV: 7% Website: Click Here The first time I tried this beer I was surprised by how incredibly grapefruity it was! This is by far the fruitiest beer I’ve had. I think that even “that friend” who you’ve excommunicated because they “don’t like beer” could come to a bar and drink this. This would be a perfect beer to have with brunch al fresco. Cisco Brewers Summer of Lager Brewery: Cisco Brewers Summer Beer: Summer of Lager Style: Bohemian Pilsner ABV: 5.5% Website: Click Here This beer is what you’ll be drinking on the beaches in New England. This Nantucket brew is perfect for summer day drinking and the low ABV will make sure you can keep drinking em down. This light and drinkable beer still has some great grassy and lemon flavors with the bitterness IPA lovers will gravitate towards. What’s your favorite summer beer? Let us know!
