Please Touch the Art, Brooklyn Bridge Park Opening May 17th, the Public Art Fund has put forth a new exhibition by Danish artist Jeppe Hein at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Please Touch the Art features 18 sculptures that are specifically designed for the public to interact and engage with. Taking inspiration from nature and the environment, this unique exhibition combines modern architecture and technology to create fun and unusual forms of art. For example, Appearing Rooms produces water that shoots up from the base of the sculpture to form “rooms” and “walls” around those that enter. Fata Morgana, Madison Square Park If you haven’t checked out Madison Square Eats, the trendy outdoor pop-up food market in the heart of the Flatiron District, this weekend is the perfect time to do so. After you fill up trying out new foods and beverages, from any of the diverse 30 vendors who have set up stands in the market, head across the street to Madison Square Park. Artist Teresita Fernandez’s Fata Morgana, a visually stunning outdoor sculpture project is incorporated beautifully in the landscaping of the park. Taste of Tribeca 2015 Taste of Tribeca is an outdoor culinary event that benefits arts and enrichment programs at local public schools in New York City. Over 70 of Tribeca’s best restaurants are featured at the festival, truly bringing together the foodie community. This is perfect for those looking for a new way to experience New York City cuisine at a fun and well-run event for a great cause. Taste of Tribeca takes place on Saturday, May 16th from 11:30am to 3:00pm on Duane Street between Greenwich and Hudson. One general ticket (available for $40) allows a participant six tastes from any participating restaurant. This also includes wine and beer tours of neighborhood shops and pubs, live entertainment, Kid Zone, and a Sports Zone run by Manhattan Youth. The Seed: MARKET This Sunday May 17th from 11am to 6pm the Seed Market at the Altman Building is back. The vision of the market is to “create a place that brings together the best local plant-based, cruelty-free and eco-friendly businesses”. With a congregation of over 30 vegan vendors from all walks of life (small-family owned businesses, established businesses, individual stands, etc.) you can enjoy a great selection of foods, beverages and desserts. Added bonus- many stands are generous with samples! Although these booths are designed to cater to the vegan community, environmentalists, and animal-lovers, the Seed Market offers fresh and unique products that encourage visitors to expand their taste horizons.
