When you hear about a farm-to-table restaurant opening in Manhattan, you run. Okay well maybe not all of you do but I certainly get way too excited. Chalk Point Kitchen opened down in SoHo a few months ago and I could not wait to try it. Local, seasonal, sustainable and organic foods are the way to my heart and that is just what Chalk Point Kitchen offers. Step inside Chalk Point Kitchen The intimate dining room was packed, on a Saturday evening, when we arrived. The decor gave off a vintage farm vibe that goes along perfectly with the farm-to-table cuisine at Chalk Point Kitchen. Each table even had a beautiful single flower and red and white checkered napkins for its guests. The restaurant had dim lighting which makes it perfect for date night but also a cozy restaurant to dine at with friends and family. What I was most intrigued by, at Chalk Point Kitchen, was the emphasis on their partners where they source their food from. The menu even lists where all of their food items are from and who Chalk Point Kitchen’s partners are. That is not something all places are willing to share and it was great to see Chalk Point Kitchen emphasizing on it. It took us a little too long to decide what exactly to order as places like this can get the best of me. It’s not a common occasion I go to a restaurant and love almost every single item that they offer, but our waiter was extremely helpful in helping us decide on both wine and what food to order. Let’s Eat Our first course was the Avocado Taco. Now I am an avocado kind of gal, eating one a day on average. I like to think I use it for a variety of things but never tacos made purely from avocado. Chalk Point Kitchen serves avocado in a tortilla with cilantro, chipotle crema and queso fresco. It was very refreshing and a unique dish to serve at a restaurant. Next we had what was my absolute favorite dish at Chalk Point Kitchen, the Arctic Char Tartar. Wow. This was one of the freshest tartar dishes we have ever had. Hand cut and served with capers, lemon aioli and homemade potato chips, the Arctic Char Tartar was complete perfection. The accompiants were very minimal which allowed the taste of the arctic char to really stand out. I am officially convinced that ordering tartar elsewhere will never live up to Chalk Point Kitchen’s. We shared this along with the Bar Harbor Mussels, with kimchi, that had a little zing to it. Both excellent dishes. Chalk Point Kitchen will definitely be in the restaurant rotation for us as I am still wondering what the New Orleans Style Crab & Avocado and Fresh Chickpea Falafel taste like. They may need to serve a tasting menu for their farm-to-table fanatics next time we dine at Chalk Point Kitchen. For more information on Chalk Point Kitchen check out their website
