Doc Watson’s – Irish Pub on the Upper East Side The Brain February 12, 2015 Beer, Brunch, burgers, Dinner, Drink Spots, Featured, Pub, Restaurants, Reviews, Upper East Side Doc Watson’s on the Upper East Side is a brunch treasure that I wish I had discovered much sooner. A weekend special that includes two complimentary drinks (alcoholic or not) with any brunch entree seemed too good to be true so I had to check it out. Old World Charm at Doc Watson’s I decided to meet the friend who told me about this awesome special one early Sunday morning. We were the second party to get there and we were greeted by a very friendly bartender who told us to pick any table we liked. We choose a table next to the back window, that overlooks a courtyard, that opens up in the warmer weather. The interior of Doc Watson’s reminds me of many pubs and restaurants I had seen in Ireland. Old-world lighting, trinkets, and pictures, with wood and copper details, make this place very charming. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere was perfect for this frigid day. We warmed up in seconds. Our waiter, John, was very friendly and attentive and he quickly took our drink orders. After delivering a classic Mimosa to me, and a Bloody Mary with a punch to my friend, we put in our food orders. I decided on a three egg omelette with peppers and onions that come with cottage fries while my friend was much more adventurous and ordered her first ever Eggs Florentine with home fries. Even though I didn’t order the most exciting thing on the menu ( I could have an omelette and fries every day) my entree choice was the best decision I had made that day. My omelette was pretty basic but it was very fluffy and hearty. I cannot remember, for the life of me, the last time I had cottage fries…ya know, the circle cut ones with the ridges. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and I wish more places in NYC had them! Between the spinach, the English Muffin, and the hollandaise sauce, the Eggs Florentine was a bit too buttery and rich for my friend but she was a big fan of the poached eggs. The home fries were incredibly tasty and had a nice kick from the peppers and onions. Those are definitely worth ordering again. I am very interested in coming back to try more of the entree options (all priced at $13.95 minus the steak and eggs). Particularly the New York Crunchy French Toast that my neighboring table seemed to be be enjoying so much.
