“Ladies and Gentleman there are currently 20-30 minute eastbound delays due to earlier signal problems at Jamaica.” Oh how we have all heard this in the morning and slowly start to accept hearing this more than we should considering what we pay to ride the Long Island Fail Road. I mean Rail Road. Outside of the unreliable trains and inconsistent schedules there is however one thing we can always rely on. And that is the type of people we see every morning on the LIRR Morning Commute. 1. The One Who Works Nonstop….Literally. Traits: Usually has their laptop out connected to the outlet by the doors (headphones optional). On and off the cell phone with people and an array of messy papers spread across their lap and falling onto the seat next to them. 2. The One Who Continues the Morning Fight with Their Spouse on the Train Traits: They don’t care if it’s 6 in the morning and you are trying to have a calm semi quiet train ride. They are too busy fighting their spouse to the very end and proving their point. 3. The One Who Disregards Personal Space Traits: Usually takes over the entire seat…….along with yours. Have fun trying to get your train pass out of your bag or wallet because you can’t even move and if you do, they are just going to take whatever space you just made trying to grab your ticket. 4. The One Who Forgot What Personal Hygiene Is. Traits: You smell this more than you can see it. But, they will most likely be flustered and disheveled looking. 5. The Flirter Traits: Has a laundry list of sly pickup lines and compliments. They are bound to strike a conversation with you whether you want to have one or not. 6. The One Who Sleeps Till The Very Last Minute Traits: Usually goes for an aisle seat so you are trapped while everyone is waiting by the door as it approaches the platform. The entire time in the tunnel you’ve contemplated tapping them but then the nice person in you says “No, they will wake up in time,” and by the graces of the train gods they snap out of it just as the doors beep open.
