Music festivals are becoming some of the largest crowd drawing events now a days. For us New Yorkers the most gigantic ones, like Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, etc., not only require your event ticket but a plane ticket and a hotel. Things can get a bit expensive real quick just from your plane ticket and hotel alone. So for those who are looking to frequent some Music Festivals this year, and not break the bank, here’s a list of some awesome music festivals within a short drive of NYC! 2015 Music Festivals Close to NYC Gathering of the Vibes Website: https://gatheringofthevibes.com When: July 30th– August 2nd Where: Bridgeport, CT Headliners: Weezer, Ben Harper, Wilco This chill festival in Connecticut is located on the beautiful Seaside Park where you can feel free to take a dip if the sun is too much. You’re bound to see young and old hippies here. This is a relatively small festival but this year they are bringing in some big name artists so you’re in store for an awesome up close performance. Bring your tie-dye and jam out. Camp Bisco Website: http://campbisco.com When: July 16th-18th Where: Scranton, PA Headliners: Pretty Lights, The Disco Biscuits, Bass Nectar This year Camp Bisco is at Montage Mountain, a waterpark and music pavilion in Scranton. This means that you can enjoy all of the fun of a lazy river or wave pool while still rocking out. The tickets for Camp Bisco are for the full 3 day passes so book a hotel nearby, camp out or just make it a day trip it’s only 2 hours away! Newport Folk Festival Website: http://www.newportfolk.org When: July 24th-26th Where: Newport, RI Headliners: Rodger Waters, The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine Enjoy the gorgeous scenery of Fort Adams and overlook the harbor for this festival. The Newport Folk Festival has some seriously awesome history in folk music, they’ve had everyone from Bob Dylan to Johnny Cash back in the day. Now in their 56th year, this festival is still one of the coolest around the country! While the tickets have sold out on their website there are plenty for good prices on StubHub. Mad Decent Block Party Website: http://maddecentblockparty.com When: August 8th and 9th Where: Brooklyn, NY Headliners: Major Lazer, Vic Mensa, Knife Party, Tyler, The Creator Mad Decent is a record label started by Diplo. They represent a ton of names you’ll recognize. Their block parties will feature more than just the artists represented by the label. Mad Decent Block Party will be in cities across the US all summer. If you can’t make the shows in Brooklyn they will also be in Philly the weekend before. P.S.
