For the taste and feel of old school New York, head to Strip House for nothing short of a classic experience. On any given night you’re bound to find the red leather booths of Strip House filled with NYC locals and tourists alike.

Strip House has plenty of delicious options for your first course.  Our table loved the Spicy Tuna Tartare with avocado and cucumber. I thought this was a little heavy on the salt but the freshness of the cucumber and tuna helped to cut through that. One dish that we all agreed was delicious was the Clams Casino. It is pretty rare to see this item on menus today but Strip House does it right with lots of bacon, some jalapeño and charred lime. But still, the must order off of the appetizers is the Strip House Roasted Bacon.  This insanely thick cut smokey bacon will make you ask yourself, “have I ever really had bacon before this moment?”

What can I say? Obviously Strip House knows how to make a great steak, the crust on all of these steaks is something else! Our overall favorite was the 12oz. filet mignon.  Though all of the steaks are great, the filet was really out of the world and extremely tender. Steak house dinners are all about proper sides and Strip House has some great ones. My favorite is their Black Truffle Creamed Spinach.  I am a total sucker for a good creamed spinach and add some black truffle in there, and I will melt into a puddle of creamed spinach myself. In addition to the spinach you can go with one of their fabulous potato options which we kept  classic and went with the whipped potato puree.

The obvious choice for dessert is their massive chocolate cake, do it! This 24 layer chocolate cake is the stuff of your dreams. It’s served cold, so you get that feeling of eating it out of the refrigerator in the middle of the night, and believe me the slice is so big you’ll probably bring some home and do just that! The crème brulee and the cheesecake are also outstanding, if you aren’t feeling chocolate. (But still order cake to go!)

Strip House is a perfect place to take a non-native New Yorker to give them a real feel of the city. So, go big like an old school gangster and order a big steak at Strip House.
