I’ll never forget the first bite of the best sandwich I ever had. I was in Florence, Italy, a place known for fresh…basically everything, and this specific sandwich shop had been hyped up for a while. All my friends who had previously been there said whatever I do, I must stop by this place. My friends know food so I take their advice very seriously. And of course, this sandwich did not let me down. I filled the baguette to the brim with every fresh veggie offered and topped it off with a thick slab of cheesy delicious brie. And let me tell you, I still dream about this sandwich, wishing that one day to have it again….

But in the meantime, my search for the best sandwich in NYC must continue. And it’s only fitting that my most recent find is Panette, which originates from Rome, Italy. Even before trying it, I trusted I was in good hands.

Located in the meatpacking district, on the corner of 14th street and 8th avenue, Panette brings the high quality tastes of Italy to NYC. They offer a wide variety of premium Italian meats and ingredients cooked to perfection in house, all served on the finest French baguettes. Whether you are in the mood for the perfect lunch or dinner, a shot of espresso, treat yourself to Panette for an authentic Italian experience in the heart of Manhattan.

Attempting to recreate the original sandwich I feel oh so in love with, I went with the ‘Oil Pickled’ which comes with dried tomatoes, house roasted Eggplant, House Roasted Zucchini & Homemade Pesto on a Multigrain Baguette, plus I added brie because how could I not? Meredith went for the Speck. With smoked prosciutto, taleggio soft cheese & truffle sauce on a multigrain baguette, and high praises from the staff, she couldn’t resist.

Panette also serves breakfast sandwiches (frittata sandwiches with meat or just veggies), salads, pastries, and have just added a few pasta salads to their menu. The is the real deal people, excellent and authentic ingredients with a friendly and accommodating staff. Though I would never pass the chance to go back to Italy, I won’t have to go back anytime soon because it’s safe to say I’ve found my new favorite sandwich here in NYC.
