As someone who had never listened to podcasts, I couldn’t believe how addicted I became to the social phenomenon that was Serial. At first I just listened to it on my commute to work, but soon I couldn’t limit myself to those twenty minutes a day. I started listening, as I was getting ready in the morning, as I was falling asleep -basically any moment that was socially acceptable for me to plug earphones in and ignore the world became my Serial time.

Unfortunately, the series has ended, leaving me with a newfound podcast void. Eager to fill this new void, I started doing some research in the podcast world. Though it was fun (err maybe not the right word) to listen to a murder mystery case unfold, I found myself instead drawn to the health and wellness podcasts, an obvious passion of mine. Here’s a list of my top five favorite health and wellness themed podcasts.

No Meat Athlete – Health Food Podcast

A health food podcast meant to inform and inspire plant-based athletes of all kinds. And also for those ever-curious non-veg people dying to know how Vegans get enough protein?! Frazier and cohost welcome all listeners, and foster an inclusive attitude. Check out this podcast for training tips, healthy lifestyle and habit change advice from well-known guests and experts in the field.

 

Open Sky Fitness

Out of all five podcasts listed here, I’ve been listening to Open Sky Fitness the most. The hosts are funny, entertaining and I appreciate their openness to all dietary lifestyles. It is clear their mission is to gather and share advice from all types of health experts, instead of selling one type of diet. They’ve had great interviews, including Josh Radnor, Freelee the Banana Girl, and Juli Bauer behind Paleomg. Tune in every week to learn how to be a healthier you from their Health Food Podcast.

 

TED Talks Health

Continuing with the theme of groundbreaking conversations, TED Talks Health podcasts episodes range from way-new medical breakthroughs to smart daily healthy habits. Doctors and Researchers share their discoveries about medicine and well-being onstage at the TED conference and other Tedx events globally.

 

Balanced Bites

Definitely not the typical image of Paleo, hosts Diane Sanfilippo and Liz Wolfe share a practical and modern approach to holistic and Paleo lifestyle. Proving Paleo isn’t all jocky men and crossfit and these women are empowering us to see this ancestral way of eating differently. Together they share practical and refreshing advice on their balanced nutritional philosophy.

 

Dishing Up Nutrition

If you’re looking for a free nutritionist to place in your pocket and have whenever needed, this is the healthy food podcast for you. Dishing up advice ranging from balanced eating to increase energy to restoring digestion and eliminating cravings, you’ll learn it all. Plus, the show has trained nutritionists take questions from listeners as well as bring in expert guests for interesting discussions that’ll keep you engaged.
