Always looking for ways to make cooking less overwhelming, while still healthy and delicious, I somehow stumbled upon Fresh Routes and boy am I happy I did.

Where did Fresh Routes come from?

Fresh Routes, simply put, is bringing cooking back, but designing it around the hectic and busy lifestyles most of us lead. Back in 2009, co-founders Sarah and Josh moved together to NYC and discovered their love for New York and its diversity, specifically in regards to food. They soon began to envision a food box solution to allow cooking to fit into their lifestyle. After winning the 2012 Food for Health Business Plan Competition at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC, Josh and Sarah created Fresh Routes to start offering people healthy dinner ideas that transform cooking into a fast, fun and healthy experience any night of the week.

So what exactly is Fresh Routes? Fresh Routes is a food box that includes gourmet and shelf-stable pantry items, such as Organic grains, oils, vinegars, custom seasoning blends, along with an easy-to-follow recipe, that is designed to take no more than 30 minutes to prepare. Once you choose which food box you’d like, all that is left to do is buy the fresh produce that goes with recipe.

Our Fresh Routes Experience

For example, for my first time trying Fresh Routes, I chose two recipes that sounded delicious; Madras Curry with Ginger Cilantro Rice, and the Thai Coconut Noodles. The Madras Curry kit came with rice, seasonings, broth, coconut milk. All I had to purchase were fresh veggies and protein. For the Thai Coconut Noodles, the sauce blend and seasonings and noodles were included, which just left veggies and proteins for me to buy. What I love most about Fresh Routes is that I still get to experience the joy of cooking, instead of simply being delivered a pre-made meal. And nothing goes to waste! I have so many spices I hardly ever touch because they were required for just one recipe. With Fresh Routes, I get perfectly measured amounts of sauces and seasonings, allowing me to use everything right up and not waste a bit.
